Our worship services at Discovery are designed to help you worship God in a very real way. We provide times for praise and worship, reflection, prayer, scripture reading, and a Biblical message to encourage you in your walk with God. Our services typically last about an hour, and we have kids programs available during all or part of the service, depending on the age of the kids.
Music
Our worship songs are primarily modern style rock praise and worship, with a balance between energetic and driving praise songs and slower, more introspective times of worship. The music is led by the Discovery Worship band, generally with Rob Brock leading on piano, and with keyboards, guitar, drums and percussion, and vocals. More information about the songs in our worship set each week is available on this blog. For a list of the songs we've been singing recently, click on the "Songs we're singing" link in the Discovery Worship menu at the left.
Communion
Following the example of the early Christians in the book of Acts, we take Communion, or "the Lord's Supper", every week as a normal part of our worship service. This is a time for reflection, renewal, and re-dedication. If you are a believer, or even if you are seeking God for the first time, you are welcome to join us in taking Communion. (Note: we use non-alcoholic grape juice).
Offering
Again following the example of the early church, we take up a collection for the work of the church each week. Sometimes referred to as tithes (10% of our income) and offerings (a gift to the Lord), this is a time when the members of the church give to support the work of the church. These funds are used for all church ministries, and at least 10% of the church budget is dedicated to mission support.
Message
Each week you'll hear a Biblical message with practical applications for your life, and many messages are part of a series on a relevant topic. The messages are typically reinforced with PowerPoint slides and an outline in the bulletin. Wayne Allen, the Senior Pastor at Discovery, will usually share the message, but Rob Brock or Andrew Krueger will also share on a semi-regular basis.
